Olivier Vanderschaeghe started to study the cello at the age of 6 with Isabelle Brys. He finished his studies cello and chamber music with the greatest distinction at the ‘Stedelijke Academie voor Muziek en Woord “Peter Benoit”’ in Harelbeke, where he was member of the string ensemble ‘Arte dell’Arco’ (First Prize Summa cum Laude at the ‘Internationaal Muziekfestival voor de Jeugd’ in Neerpelt, 1997), conducted by Eddy Desnijder.
In 1999, he was laureate of the ‘Axion Classics Competition’ and began to study at the ‘Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel’: first in the class of Harro Ruijsenaars and after with Jeroen Reuling. He obtained his master degree with great distinction in 2005.

Olivier Vanderschaeghe followed master classes with Frans Helmerson in the ‘43ième Académie de Musique “Tibor Varga”’, Sion (Zwitserland), with Jian Wang and Hakuro Mori at the ‘2004 Ishikawa Music Academy’ (Japan), and with Gary Hoffman and Roel Dieltiens at the ‘Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel’. In 2005-2006, Olivier has been doing an Erasmus exchange with the ‘Conservatoire de Musique’ of Genève, where he got cello lessons of François Guye.

From 2000 until 2006, Olivier was a fix member of the ‘Brussels Chamber Orchestra’, a string orchestra that has been invited on tours through Germany, Japan, France, Spain and Mexico. In 2006-2007, he was cellist in the ‘Vlaams Radio Orkest’. Since 2008, Olivier has become member of the ‘Orchestre Philharmonique de Liège’.
